Curriculum Vitae

I help you find better solutions

Matej Kaninsky

I’m an award-winning senior user experience and product designer with 6+ years of experience in UX and 10+ years in web design.

I hold master's degrees in human-computer interaction (UCL), and process engineering and management (University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague). The blend of business, engineering, user research and design background gives me a unique perspective on the challenges you are facing.

I am experienced in leading projects and teams in international agile environments—with in-house, third-party and offshore development teams.

My and my team's designs have been used by millions of customers through my work for BBC, PwC, O2, Which?, UCL/Intel and more.

My mission is to bring positive change in society through better design. I mean it.

My skills

Techniques, Methods, SW

I’m sure you’ve heard that before but it’s true—there is no single right process. Every company, organisation or individual is different with a different history, motivation, opportunities and values.

I always strive to bring together the right techniques and methods, in both research and design, to provide you with the best possible outcome (and within your timeframe and budget). However, one thing is for sure, it always starts with an understanding of what you and your target audience really need.

Soft Skills

Learning Fast

I’m eager to learn and I learn fast. I'm a bit of a bookworm as well and one of my most favourite activities, in general, is studying and then applying what I've learnt.

Clear Communication

Thanks to my experience and education I speak the “languages” of developers, businessmen, and marketers which allow me to communicate effectively and efficiently to get buy-in for the UCD process and to build rapport.

Engaging & Persuasive Presentation

I ran workshops on copywriting, UX, and presentation skills at PwC, chaired dozens of meetings and presented at various events – small to large crowds, colleagues to top management. As a musician, I performed for up to 10,000 people.

Effective Negotiation

I’m proactive, perseverant and persuasive. I value other people’s opinions and strive for win-win deals.

Active Listening & Empathy

You know this one: People have 2 eyes, 2 ears, and 1 mouth. As a designer, I always aim to keep these in this order and ratio.

Teamwork & Leadership

I have experience leading and mentoring design teams, and leading large-scale projects.

Looking is not seeing

I research to see where issues and opportunities hide.

I design and test to facilitate positive change your customers and your business will benefit from.
